If Contact Data Enrichment returns the wrong person, select Don’t Save so that nothing is added to the Contact Record. AI Credits are still used because they are used when a match is found, and they are not refunded automatically.
Contact Data Enrichment matches the details on a Contact Record against Crelate’s dataset and returns the likeliest person it finds. This article explains how to check a match before you save it, what happens to the data when you do not save, how to get better matches, and when AI Credits are used.
How do I check a match before I save it?
After a match is found, the Enrich Contact window opens. Your Contact is on the left with the enriched data already applied and marked Mapped, and the enriched data found is on the right. Compare the name, employer, and location with the person you expected, and then choose one of the following:
The match is the wrong person: Select Don’t Save, and then Close Without Saving. None of the enriched data is added to the Contact. The AI Credits for the match are still used, because the data was found and made available to you.
Only some of the data is right: Select a field marked Mapped on the left to undo that change, or select a field on the right to overwrite the value on the left. Then select Save to Contact.
💡 Pro Tip: Check the employer and location, not only the name. Many people share the same name, so those details are the quickest way to confirm that the match is the person you expected.
How do I handle a wrong match in bulk enrichment?
Review each Contact in the Enrich Contacts window instead of saving the whole group at once. Select Skip for a wrong match. Skip works the same way as Don’t Save: none of the enriched data is added to the Contact, and the AI Credits are still used.
Save All overwrites existing Contact Record data with the enriched data for every Contact in the group, so use it only after you have checked the matches. After you select Skip or Save & Next, you cannot go back to that Contact. For the full steps, see Bulk Contact Data Enrichment.
💡 Pro Tip: Use Save & Next to review Contacts one at a time instead of Save All. This lets you skip a wrong match, or undo a mapped field, before anything is overwritten.
How do I handle a wrong match in the Crelate Chrome AI Talent Assistant?
In the Crelate Chrome AI Talent Assistant, Enrich only fills in the form. The fields it changed are highlighted, and nothing reaches Crelate until you select Add to Crelate or Update.
To put back the old value for a field, select the Revert icon on the highlighted field. The Revert icon works the same way in the classic Chrome extension.
If the match is the wrong person, leave the form without saving.
AI Credits are used when the match is returned, even if you do not save it.
What if I already saved the wrong data?
Open the Contact Record, edit the fields that were changed, and correct them by hand. The Audit Log shows the details of updates, so you can see what changed, but it cannot restore data. Data that is merged into a Contact Record, including from an enrichment, cannot be restored.
💡 Pro Tip: Review the mapped fields before you save. Because merged data cannot be restored, undo any field that would overwrite a value you want to keep, or move the new value to a different field.
Is the wrong person’s data still stored in Crelate?
Yes. An enrichment artifact is stored on each Contact Record you enrich, whether or not you save the data. You can open it from either location:
Activity Stream: The activity reads “This record was enriched and the data was stored,” with an attached Enrichment artifact.
Documents: Open the Documents tab on the Contact Record.
For a wrong match, the artifact holds the other person’s details. Admins can delete the enrichment artifact from the Documents tab of the Contact Record. A user who is not an Admin can delete it only if their User Role has Full access to the Enrichment document type.
How does an Admin give a User Role access to delete enrichment artifacts?
Go to Settings > Security > User Roles. Navigate Here.
Select the User Role you would like to manage.
Expand the Document Types section.
Locate Enrichment and set it to Full.
Select Save to apply the change.
How can I get better matches?
Enrichment matches the details on your Contact Record. The more of these details a Contact Record has, and the more accurate they are, the better the match. A Contact Record with only a name and a company or location is more likely to match the wrong person.
Crelate recommends having 3 or more of the following fields populated:
Primary Email Address
Primary Phone Number
Website - LinkedIn Profile
Website - Facebook
First Name
Last Name
Company - Current Position
Location
Postal Code
Education - School
You can also improve a match in these ways:
Add a public LinkedIn profile URL: Recruiter and Sales Navigator URLs cannot be used.
Fix incorrect details: Correct emails, phone numbers, and URLs that are wrong or belong to someone else. Crelate warns you about ones that look invalid and tells you they will not be used.
Check before you enrich again: If you enriched the Contact within the last 90 days, a Please Confirm message asks whether you would like to enrich again. If a match is found, another 20 AI Credits are used.
💡 Pro Tip: A LinkedIn profile URL typically gives the highest match success. If a Contact Record has few details, add the LinkedIn profile first and then run the enrichment.
When is an AI Credit used?
Contact Data Enrichment uses 20 AI Credits for each Contact enriched when a match is found.
AI Credits are used when the match is returned, before you save, and even if you select Don’t Save or Skip.
They are also used if the match gives you the same data you already had.
No AI Credits are used when no match is found, when the Contact does not have enough details, or when enrichment fails, which means no data could be found for that Contact. Crelate tells you that no AI Credits were consumed.
In bulk enrichment, the confirmation says it will use “up to” the total, because only matches are charged.
Are AI Credits refunded?
Crelate does not refund AI Credits automatically, including when enrichment returns the wrong person. If you believe AI Credits were used in error, contact Crelate Support with the Contact Record and the time you enriched it. Each request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. To learn how credits work, see Understanding AI Credits.
Key takeaway
If Contact Data Enrichment returns the wrong person, compare the name, employer, and location in the Enrich Contact window, and then select Don’t Save (or Skip in bulk enrichment) so that nothing is added to the Contact Record. In the Crelate Chrome AI Talent Assistant, nothing reaches Crelate until you select Add to Crelate or Update, and the Revert icon puts back the old value for a field. AI Credits are used when a match is found, even if you do not save it, and Crelate does not refund them automatically. Requests to review a charge are handled case by case. If you already saved wrong data, correct the fields by hand, because the Audit Log shows what changed but cannot restore merged data. An enrichment artifact is stored on the Contact Record whether or not you save, and for a wrong match it holds the other person’s details. Admins can delete it, and other users need Full access to the Enrichment document type. To get better matches, populate 3 or more of the recommended fields, add a public LinkedIn profile URL, and fix details that are wrong. No AI Credits are used when no match is found, when the Contact does not have enough details, or when no data could be found.
