Setting Up Your Crelate MCP Connection

Learn how to enable API Access and generate an MCP Key to connect Crelate with compatible AI tools using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Written by Amanda Krutz

What Is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) provides a standardized way for AI assistants and other compatible AI tools to securely connect with and access information from Crelate. With MCP, you can bring your Crelate recruiting data into supported AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and other compatible solutions without building a custom integration.

The initial Crelate MCP experience is read-only, allowing supported AI tools to access information from Crelate while keeping your existing data and records protected from changes.

Enable API Access

Before you can create an MCP Key, you must first enable API Access for your Crelate account. Your MCP Key uses your Crelate API Key as its credential, so API Access must be enabled before you can complete the MCP setup.

To enable API Access:

  1. Navigate to Your Profile & Preferences.

  2. Select API Access.

  3. Toggle Enable API Access to On.

Once API Access is enabled, you can generate your MCP Key.

Generate Your MCP Key

After enabling API Access:

  1. Navigate to AI / MCP Access.

  2. Select Generate MCP Key.

  3. Once the key is generated, copy and securely save it.

Important: Your MCP Key will only be displayed when it is initially generated and will not be shown again. Be sure to save the key in a secure location before leaving the page.

Your MCP Key can then be used to establish the connection between Crelate and your compatible AI tool.

Connect Crelate to Your AI Client

Once you generate your personal MCP Access Key, you can add it to your AI client's MCP configuration to establish the connection with Crelate.

Your MCP Access Key acts on your behalf and uses your existing Crelate permissions. This means the AI client can only access the Crelate information and functionality that your user account is already authorized to access.

Add Crelate to Your MCP Configuration

To connect Crelate to your AI client, you will need to add the Crelate MCP Server and your personal MCP Access Key to the client's MCP configuration.

  1. Open your preferred AI client that supports MCP connections.

  2. Navigate to the client's MCP settings or configuration.

  3. Add the Crelate MCP Server to your configured MCP connections.

  4. Enter your MCP Access Key when prompted for authentication.

  5. Save the configuration and complete the connection.

Once the connection is established, your AI client can access supported Crelate data based on your existing user permissions.

Important: Your MCP Access Key is personal to your Crelate account. Keep it secure and do not share it with others. Anyone with access to your key may be able to access Crelate data through your permissions.
