Overview
We’ve updated how Inactive contact statuses work to better align with data governance and platform efficiency.
These improvements give you greater control over which Contacts are eligible for AI-driven features, including Insights enrichment and other automated Crelate tools.
How Insights Works with Contact Status
Insights automatically enriches contacts marked with a record status meaning of Active.
Contacts with a meaning of Inactive are excluded from enrichment and all other automated data updates.

**IMPORTANT** Active and Inactive specifically refers to status meaning and not the customizable name of your status.
What’s New for Inactive Statuses
Inactive contacts now have tighter restrictions to support data governance and keep your database clean and efficient.
Once a Contact is marked with an Inactive status:
- 🚫 You cannot create new activities on them 
- 🚫 You cannot update or edit their contact fields 
- 🚫 They will not receive journaled emails or text messages 
- 🚫 They cannot be added to new opportunities 
- 🚫 Their documents become read-only, and new uploads are disabled 
Additionally, contacts interacted with in the last 90 days (for example, activity created, email sent, etc.) cannot be set to an Inactive status.
Configure Status Visibility and Communication
You can now configure visibility and communication preferences for Active statuses. This was previously available only for Inactive or Do Not Use statuses.
This gives you control over which records are visible to users and how they can be engaged with.
⚠️ Action Recommended
Review your contact statuses to confirm that only truly inactive records are marked as such.
If you have contacts you plan to engage with or enrich through Insights, ensure they’re set to an Active meaning.
