Developer Tools is a feature built into Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. When Crelate shows an error, screenshots from Developer Tools give our team detailed information for investigating it. This article explains how to open Developer Tools and which screenshots to send.
Before you capture screenshots, copy the Support Payload from the Error window if one appears. See What to Do If You See an Error in Crelate for those steps.
Open Developer Tools
Open the page where the error occurs, then use one of these options.
Windows: Press F12.
Mac: Press Cmd + Option + I.
From the browser menu: Select the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner, hover over More tools, and select Developer Tools.
Set up the Network tab and Console
Select the Network tab at the top of Developer Tools.
Make sure the Console is showing at the bottom. If it is not, press Esc to show it.
Leave Developer Tools open, and repeat the action that caused the error.
Developer Tools records activity only while it is open, so open it before you repeat the action. An error that happened before you opened it will not appear.
Take a full-window screenshot
While the error is showing, take a screenshot of the entire browser window. The screenshot should show the Crelate page, the Network tab, and the Console. Scroll the Console to the bottom first so that the most recent messages are visible.
Check the Network tab for a failed request
A failed request appears in the Network tab as a line item in red, with a red circle and an X next to it.
Select the red line item.
In the panel that opens, select the Response tab.
Take a screenshot that shows the red line item and the contents of the Response tab.
If no line item is red, you do not need this screenshot. Send the full-window screenshot instead.
Send the screenshots to Support
Select the Help button in Crelate, start a chat with Support, and attach your screenshots. Include the Support Payload and the Error ID if one was shown, and note what you were doing when the error appeared.
If you are unable to open Crelate, email your screenshots to support@crelate.com.
Report an error as soon as it keeps happening. Server logs are generally retained for 15 days, so recent errors are far more likely to be traceable.
