You can turn on auto-numbering so that every new opportunity in Crelate receives a unique ID number automatically. Each new number is one higher than the last, and you can choose the number the sequence starts from.
What does auto-numbering do?
When auto-numbering is enabled, every opportunity created from that point forward is assigned a unique ID number. Each new ID increases by one from the previous ID. For example, if the last opportunity was assigned 1005, the next one is assigned 1006.
The ID number is also searchable. You can enter an opportunity’s number in the search bar to find it quickly.
How to turn on auto-numbering for Opportunities
Go to Settings > Core Records > Jobs & Opportunities.
Enable the auto-numbering option for opportunities.
Select Yes when prompted to choose a starting number.
Enter the number you would like the sequence to begin with.
Save your changes.
How to change the starting number
You can change the number the sequence continues from at any time.
Go to Settings > Core Records > Jobs & Opportunities.
Select Reset Next Number.
Enter the number you would like to use for the next opportunity created.
Save your changes.
Opportunities created after the change continue counting up from the number you enter.
Does auto-numbering change existing opportunities?
No. Existing Opportunities keep the numbers they already have, and Opportunities that do not have a number are not assigned one. Only Opportunities created after auto-numbering is enabled receive a number, following the sequence you configured.
The same applies when you use Reset Next Number. The reset affects only Opportunities created afterward and never changes the numbers on existing Opportunities.
Key takeaway
Auto-numbering gives every new opportunity a unique, searchable ID that increases by one each time. You can set or reset the starting number in Settings > Core Records > Jobs & Opportunities.
What's Next?
You can also auto-number Contacts, so each new Contact receives its own unique, searchable ID. Continue to the article below to learn how.
