Discover My Data (Beta)

Learn how to search the Contacts already in your database using plain-language prompts with Discover My Data, now available in beta to select organizations.

Written by Amanda Krutz

Rediscover the talent you already have in Crelate. With Discover My Data, you can search your existing Contacts using the same natural, plain-language prompts you use when searching for external talent with Discover. Describe the person you are looking for, and Discover surfaces matching people your team has already sourced, connected with, or added to your database.

Discover My Data is currently in beta and is available to select organizations. If you do not have this feature and would like to request access, please contact your Account Manager or Crelate Support.

What Is Discover My Data?

Discover helps you find people you would not otherwise have found, drawing on Crelate’s proprietary dataset. Discover My Data brings that same conversational experience to the people already in your database.

This is especially helpful in larger databases, where people you have already sourced can be hard to find again without the exact keywords. Instead of building a Boolean search, you describe what you remember, and Discover finds the closest matches among your own Contacts.

When to Use Discover My Data

Use Discover My Data when you want to:

  • Find people in your database without knowing the exact words in their record.

  • Rediscover talent your team sourced or spoke with in the past.

  • Start a new search from the people you already know before looking outside your database.

If you remember an exact term and need a definitive list or count, a standard Search is the better choice. Search reliably returns every record that contains a specific term, while Discover finds people who closely match a description, even when the wording differs.

Before You Begin

  • Discover My Data is in beta and is available to select organizations.

  • Discover My Data searches Contacts only. It does not search Companies.

  • Your results depend on the quality of the Contact data in your database. The more complete your Contact Records are, the better your matches will be.

How to Search Your Own Contacts

  1. Open Discover.

  2. Select the People tab.

  3. Turn on the Search only my contacts toggle. The message Searching only your contacts appears below it to confirm that your search will stay within your own database.

  4. Describe the talent you are looking for in the prompt box. The box offers two starting templates, which you can fill in or replace with your own words. Select the information icon beside the box for more guidance.

  5. Select Go.

  6. Review the matching Contacts.

To search for external talent again, turn the toggle off. With the toggle off, Discover searches external talent as it does today. Select Start Over at any time to begin a new search.

Prompt examples

Discover My Data accepts the same two kinds of prompts shown in the search box:

  • By role and background: “I’m looking for a Senior Accountant in Healthcare located in Dallas, Texas with 5 years of experience.”

  • By name: “I’m looking for Jordan Smith at Example Company.”

Tips for Better Results

  • Describe the person, not only the title. Include the role, the skills, the industry, and the location if they matter, as you would when explaining the search to a colleague.

  • Be specific, then refine. Start with a clear description. If the results are too broad, add details. If they are too narrow, remove one.

  • Keep your Contact Records current. Discover can only match on what is in your database, so complete and up-to-date Contacts give better results.
