Available on Business plans and higher.
Crelate Search Assistant helps you build better searches of your own database. When you run a Boolean search, a Search Assistant panel appears above your results with two kinds of suggestions:
Also search suggests related job titles. Use these when your search is too narrow, and you want to find people whose titles you might not think to type.
Narrow by skill suggests skills. Use these when your search returns more Contacts than you can reasonably review.
Search Assistant uses Semantic Search, a machine learning approach, to understand how titles and skills relate to one another. Anything already in your search is left out of the suggestions, so you only see new ideas. You remain in control of the search, and nothing changes until you choose a suggestion.
How to use Search Assistant
Run a search as you normally would. The Search Assistant panel appears below the search bar.
To widen your search, click any title under Also search. Select More to see the full list of suggested titles.
To narrow your search, click any chip under Narrow by skill. Your results will be limited to people who mention that skill. Select More to see additional skills.
To include every suggested title at once, select Include similar titles. Open the dropdown beside it to review the titles and choose individual ones. A dash in the checkbox means that only some of the titles are included.
Select the information icon in the panel at any time for a short reminder of how these options work.
Turning Search Assistant off
Search Assistant is on by default. Admins can turn it off for the entire organization, and individual users can turn it off for themselves.
For Admins (organization-wide)
The Admin setting is labeled Semantic Search, and it controls Crelate Search Assistant.
Open Settings.
Under Subscription, select Search Settings.
Find the Semantic Search setting, which suggests similar job titles and related skills as people search.
Select Off.
When this setting is off, Search Assistant no longer appears for anyone in your organization, and individual users cannot turn it back on for themselves. Select On at any time to restore it.
For individual users
Select the Search Preferences icon, the gear icon near the top right of the search toolbar, and clear either option:
Display Similar Job Titles controls the Also search suggestions and the Include similar titles option.
Suggest Similar Search Terms controls the suggestions that Search Assistant offers.
What to know
Search Assistant is turned on by default for accounts on Business plans and higher.
Search Assistant replaces the Semantic Search beta for accounts that had access to it.
How is Search different from Discover?
Search and Discover are built for different jobs, and many recruiters use both.
Use Search to find people already in your database. Search looks through the Contacts, Companies, Opportunities, and other records you already have in Crelate. If a term appears in your database, Search reliably returns it, so it is the right choice when you remember a specific word or phrase, or when you need a complete count. Search Assistant helps here by suggesting related titles and skills you might not think to type.
Use Discover to find people outside your database. Discover looks beyond the records you have already added and finds people who closely match what you describe, even when the exact words differ. The people, skills, titles, and keywords Discover returns come from Crelate’s proprietary dataset, which makes it the right choice when you want to reach new talent you would not otherwise have found.
In short, if you know the term you are looking for, use Search. If you want to find people you have not met yet, use Discover.
